Little Company of Mary Heart Program Recognized

Torrance, CA---Little Company of Mary Hospital in Torrance has received recognition for programs for caring for congestive heart failure, a life-threatening condition when the heart beats less forcefully, allowing fluid to build in the lungs and causes shortness of breath.

The hospital was placed in the top 10 percent of performers for congestive heart failure care by Premier, a national company that reviews the qualty of care at health care networks.

Specifically, the hospital's program was recognized for both successful clinical outcomes and cost-effectiveness among the 850 hospitals that Premier works with.

By its nature, congestive heart failure requires continuous medical monitoring, along with a low sodium diet and certain drugs to help the heart.

Little Company of Mary's congestive heart failure program began in 1993, when the hospital noticed high rates of readmission for people with congestive heart failure. Those rates have sinced dropped dramatically.
