Ultrasound Procedure

Ultrasound uses sound waves instead of x-rays

South Bay Family Medical Group has several types of ultrasounds and has hospital-quality machines to perform them. Ultrasound uses sound waves instead of x-rays to take images (pictures) of body parts and can measure blood flow as well. Ultrasounds are performed by a licensed technician at the Skypark office, read by your South Bay Family Medical Group physician and reviewed by a board-certified radiologist to insure high quality interpretations.

Vascular ultrasound

Vascular ultrasounds allow your physician to measure blood flow, blockage within the arteries and the size of large arteries such as the aorta. These images are traditional "ultrasounds" in contrast to the new CIMT studies offered at South Bay Family Medical Group. CIMT imaging allows physicians to measure the "hardness" of your arteries and compare them to other people in the same age group.

Body organs can be seen well with ultrasound imaging

Body organs such as gall bladders, ovaries, and thyroids can be seen well with ultrasound imaging. In contrast to CT (CAT) scans, ultrasounds allow your physician to evaluate and measure aspects of organs without exposing patients to x-rays or IV contrast material. These tests are truly "non-invasive." Your South Bay Family Medical Group can determine which mode of imaging is best for you and offer ultrasounds in our office when appropriate
