Q : WHY SUPPORT HEALTH CARE? A : Changes in the way Medicare, managed care organizations and many private health care insurers pay hospitals and medical centers have placed extreme financial pressures on California hospitals. Today, Californias health care institutions including those in the South Bay face serious challenges. Resources at many hospitals and health care institutions are stretched to the limit. Across California, hospitals, nursing homes, home health agencies, emergency departments and physician offices are closing their doors. As our population grows older, there will be increased demands on the capacity of our health care providers. In Southern California, between 1995 and 2010, the senior population is expected to double, with the population over 75 doubling every five years. Add to that soaring costs for new technology and medications. Add to that aging hospital and clinic facilities requiring more money to replace, maintain and retrofit for earthquake safety all of this in an environment of limited resources. The result is monumental health care delivery and financial challenges for hospitals and health care systems.

Q : WHAT PART OF MY DONATION GOES TO SUPPORT PROGRAMS & PROJECTS? A : The Board of Trustees from our Foundation closely monitors the costs of fund raising, keeping it to approximately 21% per year, well below the national average of 35%. The earned income from the Foundations managed assets now covers nearly all the operating expenses, so that all contributed dollars go directly to the projects they are intended to support.
Q : CAN I DIRECT MY DONATION? A : You can choose to support any program, outreach service or department at either hospital, or you can simply leave your gift undesignated. Undesignated funds are used to support many of the programs the hospital staff and Foundation Board have chosen as focus projects for the year.
Q : HOW DO I MAKE A DONATION? A : Simply send your gift to the Foundation office, or call or fax credit card information. Donors can designate a program of their choice for funding or simply indicate they wish the gift to be used where the need is greatest. No special forms are needed. Just be sure to include your return address and phone number in case the office staff has questions. You also can make a donation through a secured on-line form:
