Programs Supported by Donations

There are many programs and services that you can help support. Here you can learn more about just a few of these very worthwhile opportunities:

CHARITABLE CARE

Mary Potter Program for Human Dignity was established to help care for the sick and dying, regardless of their ability to pay for medical health care services. Little Company of Mary, in its mission statement, recognizes the importance of caring for individuals who might not otherwise have access to these services. In the spirit of the organizations foundress, Venerable Mary Potter, we make visible the healing presence of Jesus by providing necessary medical health care services while preserving individual respect and dignity.

Partners for Healthy Kids, known as our doctors office on wheels, is an important program funded completely through donations. The mobile pediatric van visits school sites and shelters throughout the South Bay and Harbor communities providing episodic health care to under-served children at no cost to the family. Services include physical examinations, medical care for sick and injured children, immunizations, medications and health screenings. Initiating service in the spring of 1994, the program has grown rapidly. More than 19,000 patient visits - both children and their families - have occurred since the program began.

Community Health Service

Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) Centers, are a collaborative effort of Little Company of Mary, forensic nurse specialists, law enforcement agencies and sexual assault advocacy counselors to provide compassionate and comprehensive treatment for sexual assault survivors in the South Bay and Harbor areas. All services are provided free of charge to the survivor. The SART Centers are located in San Pedro and Redondo Beach.

Collaborative for Alternatives to Violence and Abuse (CAVA) is a joint initiative which involves five South Bay and Harbor area hospitals, two domestic violence service providers, law enforcement agencies and three community services agencies in a collaborative effort focused on improving identification of, and services provided for, victims of violence and abuse in hospital emergency rooms. In 1999, Little Company of Mary committed to lead this collaborative effort to accomplish three specific purposes: 1) provide better screening and identification in emergency departments for victims of family violence; 2) develop a uniform emergency advocate response model to better link the injured to existing services; and 3) develop an extensive community education program in the South Bay and Harbor areas.

CENTERS OF EXCELLENCE

The Womens Wellness Center, a new model of health care addressing all of a womans outpatient needs opened at the Beach Cities Health Center in Redondo Beach in July 2000. It is designed to deliver coordinated, comprehensive and convenient care at one site, and to serve as a central resource for womens health and wellness services throughout the LCM system.

The Heart Center, In 1970, Little Company of Mary Hospital was the first community hospital to open a Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory. In 1971, we became the areas first hospital to offer complete cardiac care. Today, we maintain our leadership position at the Heart Center with the most advanced diagnostic equipment and treatment techniques currently available. The Heart Centers state-of-the-art services range from diagnosis and treatment through recovery and rehabilitation, with a strong emphasis on prevention and education.

The Rehabcentre, The rehabcentre is a CARF - accredited acute rehabilitation unit located within San Pedro Hospital.
